Christian Beamish and the origins of a book title.

I’m excited to share that one of my favorite writers, Christian Beamish is contributing an essay to my forthcoming book A Changeable Sea.

Christian Beamish is a surfer, writer, and boat builder known for his adventurous spirit and craftsmanship. A former writer and editor at The Surfer’s Journal, Beamish gained recognition for his book The Voyage of the Cormorant, which chronicles his solo journey along the Pacific coast in a self-built wooden sailboat. His writing blends exploration, introspection, and the deep connection between humans and the sea. He currently lives in Carpinteria, California were he writes as well as shapes beautifully crafted surfboards.

I have to admit—I borrowed the phrase “A Changeable Sea” straight from Christian’s writing. It appears in his book The Voyage of the Cormorant, and several years ago it clicked in my mind as the perfect title for the series I’d been developing in various locations around the North Atlantic. Once that happened, it was an easy decision to ask him to contribute an essay to the book—an offer he graciously accepted. My hope is that pairing his words with my photographs will create something both timeless and distinctive. I sent Christian an early mock-draft of the book back in December
